The Discordant Chronicles are the chronicles originally started by the Grand Chronicler Gollan of the Clan Ravenfall in the city Gem just after the great event called the Shattering on the world called then Harmony which is now called Discordia. The Grand Chronicler wrote about how the world, its people and divine beings survived the years after the Shattering in the new harsh world. Since the first Grand Chronicler the Discordant Chronicles have been added to by successive Grand Chroniclers in the city of Gem in what is called the Eye of Discordia. The Chronicles themselves now are a series of handwritten books which are jealously guarded by the Order of the Eternal Chronicle headed by the current Grand Chronicler Hestor of the Clan-House Goldsmyth some 10,000 years later.
The Discordant Chronicles is a Fantasy Role-Playing World which was once a world in harmony and order which was heavily influenced by the five basic elements Air, Earth, Fire and Void each was connected to an ancient First God/Goddess and the First Races.
The world had been created this way by the One Creator at the start of time itself but as all things then and since nothing was perfect and just how careful the One Creator a sixth element called Entropy crept into the creation of the One Creator. Where this sixth element came from no one knows other than most believe it came from the deepest and darkest part of the void before time itself that is it has always been there and always will be there.
At first the One Creators world was perfect can by its inhabitants was called Harmony in which all the First Gods/Goddesses and First Races lived an idealistic life which turned out to be a golden age of science, arts, culture and magic which produced some fantastic wonders never seen since. But under all this striving forward the sixth element Entropy slowly grew bringing discord into this perfect world though at first few people noticed it coming and when they noticed it why were already too entrapped by it to notice its effect on them.
The end of Harmony and prelude to the Shattering itself was marked by the ending of the golden age in series of petty wars between the First Races over resources, ideologies and even growing resentment of each other all fuelled by Entropy. This conflict allowed the creation of the last First Goddess of Entropy who burst into Harmony with a fury whose very presence on Harmony caused the Shattering itself by her very presence.
The Shattering changed the whole face and nature of Harmony on a fundamental level creating the current world Discordia from its ashes. It took thousands of years for Discordia to rebuild itself to a point civilizations could survive and move forward again though the new world is full of discord, disharmony and conflict because of the ever present element Entropy.
Where there was once only the First Gods/Goddesses and the First Races now there are a multitude of minor elements, gods and races each fighting for a position within the world of Discordia. Where there was one harmony there is now disharmony that is a world of conflict influenced by Entropy itself which feeds off it.
The First Gods/Goddesses and their First Races answer to this is to isolate themselves from the ensuing chaos of Discordia in the hope they can survive the new world and keep themselves free from Entropy which most of the minor races see both as abandoning the world hence as a selfish act. But all they are doing is making their own positions weaker and sealing their eventual doom as Discord falls ever deeper into the clutches of Entropy. In truth they themselves still have power and influence to stabilise the world but refuse to do so because of the old feuds between them which helped to cause the Shattering.
It is into this world the Player Characters enter this Fantasy Role-Playing World heroes who may have enough strength of will, arms and magic to actually change the world and bring back a harmony back to the world of Discord. Some will be rebel members of First Races who disagree with their own race sitting back and doing nothing while world falls into chaos. Others will be minor races which see brighter future by fighting to bring some order either using the sword or the quill.
